Caleb’s Allergy Test & Halloween!

I took Caleb in for new allergy testing this morning!~ Probably not the best way to start Halloween!~Poor kid! Caleb first did an asthma assessment, because of how often he was sick last year. Every cold ended up with antibiotics or Prednisone because with the combo of his asthma, his lungs were pneumonia sounding! Caleb will be starting a preventative asthma med for the winter to try to prevent a repeat of last winter!

Now to the allergy test- Caleb is showing no reactions to: Egg, beef, pork, and ALL TREE NUTS!!! I am Stunned!! I have never got to add foods back INTO the diet!! He is still HIGHLY allergic to Peanuts and Dairy; and I will continue to avoid tree nuts or wait and do a food trial in the office before letting him even try those! My allergist said we can try to slowly start introducing one food at a time over a few weeks for each food- the baked egg, then regular cooked egg, then same with beef and pork.  Caleb never had big noticeable reactions to these foods before, so am not too worried about him having one now, and we do have the Epi-pen- God forbid if something should go wrong! We did not test him for yeast and canola today, and may try to get that done in the next few weeks/months.

I was also happy that I remembered to ask about the flu shot, and that Caleb was able to have that done today as well! Did you know that it is not recommended for asthmatics to receive the nasal spray flu vaccine? Well, we know now! 🙂

Hope everyone has a safe Halloween! I did decide to let the boys trick-or-treat a little bit, and I meant for them to wear gloves- but forgot. They did great and had fun! We did not stay out late, since there is school tomorrow, and both boys stayed up late last night!  I made the deal with the boys that they will hand over all the loot-in exchange for safe treats from home! Caleb did receive a few safe treats, so he was happy, and Jacob is having fun with his glow sticks! 🙂

Hi so glad to hear about calebs negative results for egg, beef, pork and tree nuts , My son uses has used a drug here in spain called singulair 4mg in a chewable tablet form , so far fingers crossed they seem to have really helped, every cold seemed to end in a crisis situation but now he still gets them but along with the use of puffers they are not so bad , What did you use for the Flu vaccine as my son has egg allergy and was told he could not be given a vaccine her in spain?
Sending lots of Positive thoughts and best wishes to you and your family from here in Spain

Hi! We have Singulair here too, but we have not been prescribed that as of yet. They want him to start a drug called Qvar, an inhaler type med. As far as the flu vaccine, there are many newer reports that flu vaccines ARE safe for those with egg allergies; however I would talk to your doctors there first. I know my younger son is severely allergic [anaphylactic] to eggs, so I am NOT comfortable getting him the flu vaccine, or some of the other vaccines either at this point. Try to balance the risk with the gain- and it’s too risky in my opinion. Many allergists will give the flu vaccine to egg allergic patients in the office, small increments over a few minutes or hours while being observed, that may be an option for your daughter as well. Good luck to you as well! Jenny

WOW that is a ton to gain back. So excited for you and for him!

That’s wonderful news! Congratulations! I do hope the preventative meds help him out this winter as well. We’ve got our air purifier now and had to run it last night as Tristan started coughing – he stopped not long after turning it on. Coincidence, possibly.

Happy to hear your great news!

One of the biggest milestones we had was the first time we introduced food into my daughter’s diet. It was amazing (and freaked me out!)

    This was an awesome update!
